Blender from zero: four Thursdays at Hangar starting 5 November
In the Foundry the first thing you learn is that a shape is not finished until it can be held. Hangar has been running a small workshop programme on that principle since 2021, and the next round starts on 5 November. The programme is called #Blendícete. Desirée Quevedo founded it. It teaches Blender, the free and open source 3D suite, to artists, designers and anyone curious enough to show up. Four sessions, Thursdays, 7 to 9 pm, in Hangar's building in Poblenou. Vol. I is an introduction to 3D design and modelling. Participants work through the modelling methods for building and moving objects, then the operations that shape them. Modifiers and effects come next, then lighting setups, materials, and control over texture and colour. The last step is rendering: walking through the different engines, then camera behaviour and its settings. Two hours a week for four weeks, 5, 12, 19 and 26 November. Good news for anyone who has opened Blender and closed it again in the same minute. The workshop assumes you are starting near zero. No portfolio, no prior software. The cost is €90 for the first volume. The rest of the season is already mapped. Vol. II covers 3D animation, 14, 21 and 28 January plus 4 February, also €90. Vol. III goes into advanced modelling and animation, 18 and 25 February and 4 and 11 March, €90. Vol. IV ends somewhere more physical: from modelling to 3D printing, 8 and 15 June, 5 to 9 pm, €175 including materials and printing. Register for two and the price drops 10 percent. All four, 30 percent. What #Blendícete does beyond teaching is print. The project runs 3D printing services so people can produce their own work rather than send it out, and gives advice on design and animation projects. Quevedo built it as a space where the software being free matters, in the practical sense that nobody has to buy a licence to start. Registration is by email to tallerblendicete(at)gmail.com. Details and the full season are at https://hangar.org/en/agenda-hangar/blendicete-vol-1-2627/ Hangar sits at Carrer Emili Agustí 50 in Poblenou, a former factory floor now split into studios and workshops. The Blender sessions happen in Door T. Bring a laptop that can run the software; the rest is taught.
