Brown es? Brown hace?: a three-session workshop with Lucía Piedra in Barcelona
Hamaca, the Barcelona media art archive in residence at Hangar, opens a three-session workshop with Lucía Piedra on 14 October. The question it works on is simple to state: what does brown do? Not what it is. What it does.
Session one is an archive presentation and a proposal. Session two is a listening session on brown sounds, a vibrating space. Session three tries to build a meaning, together. The sessions are collective and deliberate, and Piedra keeps a quote from Yuk Hui on the table: technology is not an anthropological universal; it is enabled and constrained by particular cosmologies that go beyond functionality or utility. From that line the workshop asks what a brown cosmos could be: movements of survival, landscapes, objects, feelings. Ways of making that start somewhere else.
Who it is for: artists, researchers, curators, and cultural or social practitioners who think about identity beyond ethnicism, plus sound speculators and people who practise active listening. It is open to everyone, with priority for racialised people, sexual dissidents and migrants. Nobody needs to bring anything.
Practical facts. The first session runs 7 to 9 pm on 14 October at Hangar, Emilia Coranty 16, Barcelona. Sessions two and three happen on 21 and 28 October at Piedra's home; participants get the address after registering. Entry is 20 euros general admission, 10 for Amigas Hamaca 2 and 3, and free for anyone who needs it, which you can note in the registration form.
Registration is a Google form, and the two project pages carry the longer context. Sign up here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdNPKAS6s4R9buKRqJa_-Pnpm7lMP7n-Agkh35P2rR-hugnSA/viewform

Three evenings in October. A room where identity gets taken apart, listened to, and rebuilt in public.
