Eleven days of music documentaries at Aribau
In-Edit opens its 24th edition on 29 October and runs to 8 November, all of it at Cinemes Aribau Multicines on carrer d'Aribau 5. Tickets are per screening. This is a music documentary festival, which means the programme is less about films with good soundtracks and more about people who organised their lives around a sound. The opening slot goes to El Doble, Carlo Padial's film. Voïvod: We Are Connected runs 152 minutes on the Canadian band, in English and French with Catalan subtitles. Yo no canto por cantar brings Larraitz Zuazo, Zuri Goikoetxea and Ainhoa Andraka's Chilean film, and the team shows up to present it. Stanley Nelson and Nicole London have an 85 minute film in the closing slot, followed by a warm-up set from DJ2D2. Antes de que me olvide, at 54 minutes, comes from Alberto Bougleux and Guillermo Gomez Alvarez. There is a first this year. In-Edit presents the music videos nominated for the inaugural Apolo Award for Best Music Video, which pulls the festival's remit sideways into the short form. The festival has also partnered with Arrels Fundació, the Barcelona organisation that works with homeless people, on a screening. The industry side sits alongside the screenings. In-Edit runs professional and training activities aimed at local documentary talent, and it has its own production company putting out music documentaries with an international reach. Work that does not make the Barcelona run has a second life on the festival's streaming platform. One thing worth saying about the scale: eleven days, one cinema, dozens of titles, most of them with a director or a subject in the room. That is a format that only works when a city shows up. Aribau is a five minute walk from Universitat and the screenings run late. Full lineup and tickets at in-edit.org
