Five days of listening at Hangar: einXs PRO opens its workshops
Hangar opens its doors to sound for five days. From 22 to 26 October the Poblenou production centre runs einXs PRO, the professional strand of its annual digital culture cycle, and this year the whole thing leans on listening.
Merche Blasco codesigned the programme. She builds what she calls imprecise technological couplings, instruments whose value sits in how badly they behave. That idea runs under the title Perceptive Cosmologies: light as a controller, circuits as instruments, a walk as a score.
The first workshop hands sound to light. Leslie García runs Light Interfaces on 22 October, 4 to 8 pm, in Sala Ricson. Sensors, gestures, shadows and shifts in brightness become inputs. Participants turn the room and their own movement into something that plays. No experience needed, bring a laptop, fifteen seats.
The next day belongs to Agnès Pe. Her workshop is called bleep bleep, and everyone leaves with an instrument they built. Start from a simple electronic circuit and listen to what its irregularities do. Parts vary, so the sounds vary. Then the group plays those circuits together from a score, and the piece responds to the room it happens in. Ten seats, materials included, no electronics or music background required.
Two more workshops close the week. Vittoria Assembri leads Listening as a Way of Walking on 25 October, 11 am to 4 pm with a lunch break, a collective sound walk where phones and headphones remap a neighbourhood into an affective sound map. The following afternoon Agnieszka Bułacik and Hanna Grześkiewicz run Forest Spells, a vocal workshop that treats traditional song as a living archive, drawing on field recordings from the Białowieża Forest to imagine an Eastern Europe without borders. Twenty seats.
Everything costs a symbolic €5. The fee exists so reserved places get used. Registration for all of it is on ticketic.org.
The performances are free and open. On 24 October at 7 pm, Sala Ricson hosts four sets: Leslie García's Propagation and Persistence, Agnès Pe's bleep bleep suite built from the workshop devices, the Forest Spells vocal performance, and Assembri's After the Signal, which works with magnetic tape, radio and interference as a slower kind of listening. All of it takes place in Hangar's Sala Ricson in Poblenou.
