TouchDesigner gets an MCP server: an AI agent inside your project

An MCP server now runs inside TouchDesigner. Drop one component into your project and an AI coding agent gets 26 tools for the whole environment: create operators, wire them, set parameters, read DATs, inspect runtime values, look up TD documentation. The repository is official, TouchDesigner/TDMCP, and it landed this week.

The client can be Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, OpenCode, anything that speaks streamable HTTP MCP. Setup is short. Download the .tox from the Releases page, drag it into the root of your project, switch Active on. Then pick your client in Install For, copy the generated Add MCP command and run it in your project directory, and pulse Install Skills.

For Claude Code it looks like this: claude mcp add --transport http --scope local touchdesigner http://127.0.0.1:13316/mcp. Then claude mcp list should show the server connected, and you can ask the agent what project it is attached to. A correct answer means the whole chain works. After that, try something real: create a noise TOP, blur it, end the chain in a null.

Every edit the agent makes is wrapped in an undo block, so one tool call is one Ctrl+Z step. The network editor pans to whatever the agent touches and flashes it: amber for edits, blue for inspections, violet for views. You watch the work happen instead of trusting the output. The component also ships a library of TouchDesigner conventions the agent loads on demand, so it follows house rules rather than guessing.

It is beta and the interface may still change, which the maintainers say up front. Tested against build 2025.33070. If you hit a bug, the issues page is open, and feedback is wanted. The component, the README and the release builds all live at https://github.com/TouchDesigner/TDMCP.
